Voodoo (which is often mistaken for Hoodoo) originates from a separate region of Africa than the region which birthed the beginnings of Hoodoo. Voodoo is an established religion; the word meaning "god" or "spirit". A similar practice to Voodoo such as Santeria, is often mistaken with Hoodoo. The religion of Santeria comes from the region of Cuba and was adopted in some places in the Untied States.

Hoodoo never has been nor ever will be a religion. Hoodoo is a traditional way of passing magical practices from person to person.
Hoodoo beliefs were part of the Culture I remember growing up as a child.
CoH please.

Thanks for the comment Kavika. As a child ... many, many, many years ago, I can recall an instance when an individual had a mental and physical affliction, some folks insisted on referring the person to a root doctor who practiced Hoodoo instead of a medical doctor. Thankfully, Hoodoo beliefs aren't as strong as they once were.

It's a very interesting subject. I've heard of Voodoo but not Hoodoo so it's still a little confusing. In fact, voodoo has always been a little confusing to me. For example, I've heard of white and black magic with white magic being positve. I've also seen the movie "Serpent and the Rainbow" even though it's been a long time ago. So that type of behavior where people believe their soul has been taken from them would be Voodoo black magic?
Sorry to be so uninformed about the subject.

No problem. Not many people have heard of Hoodoo. Put simply, Voodoo is a religion involving worship, Hoodoo is not.
